The Peralta Community College District was host to a special groundbreaking ceremony for the new Center for Science and Allied Health Building at Merritt College. The new building will be of one of the most advanced science centers at a community college in California.

Its construction, one of the largest Measure A bond projects in the four-college district, is being undertaken after careful consultation with students, faculty and staff and the community. The building will include cutting edge technology and the latest in sustainable, or green, building advances.The 107,292-square foot building will house Merritt College's sciences, genomics, nursing and nutrition departments. With construction beginning shortly, the building is expected to be completed in 2015.
