On Thursday July 14, Sustainable Peralta celebrated "Throw Down at the Grow Down" at the Laney Garden. Hands-on activities raised awareness of the value and technique of home composting food waste. The event also generated buzz about the new food scrap recycling programs at the Laney Cafeteria and Bistro.

The Throw Down featured speakers and performances. Many students from the Laney Culinary program learned more about the Laney Garden and how to turn food scraps into valuable soil. Since the Culinary program uses food grown in the garden, they are naturally curious to help the garden flourish.
