Welcome to the first episode of Peralta Matters, our new talk show providing an inside look at the challenges and successes of the Peralta Community College District. Our first episode deals with the budget, and we are joined by Ron Gerhard, Vice Chancellor of Finance, as we discuss the effects of State budget cuts on our educational mission. Next up is Rich Copenhagen. Representing Save Our Schools at the College of Alameda, he explains some of the ways the budget cuts have affected students and provides ways students can help fill in the gaps during these difficult financial times. Our third guest is Carlos McLean. He runs the highly acclaimed Maximum Achievement Program at Merritt College. He explains some of the ways they help black males succeed, and exemplifies why it is crucial to seek financial support outside of our usual State funding.
