"California's Open Textbook Legislation to Expand Student Access & Fuel Faculty Innovation"

Una Daly
Director of Community College Outreach
Open Courseware Consortium
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The state of California recently adopted legislation to develop open textbooks for the 50 highest enrolled college classes and store them in a statewide repository. The goal of the legislation is expanding access to education by saving students thousands of dollars each year in textbook costs. A key component of this equation is faculty adoption of open textbooks and open educational resources (OER) to enhance teaching and learning in their classrooms.

Come to this session to learn more about finding, selecting, and adopting high quality open
textbooks and OER to enhance student learning. Case studies from the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources will be shared and an invitation to
join their open and collaborative Advisory Board will be extended.
